There and back again.

aliens watching tvThey were good – very good. It has taken over a year in all to escape and readjust. From the aliens, I mean (BTW – heard they were coming out with a new movie.) Wasn’t easy to breakout but I managed to watch and learn and eventually understand their transporter and stealth technologies. Then, just like that… I was gone.

So, I am back… but back to what? It’s only been twelve months or so (do you still count time that way?) However, much seems to have changed.

First of all, an overgrown Orangutan-boy has taken over the United States… the UNITED STATES! Once thought to be the most powerful country on Earth, America is being brought to its knees by a multi-failed business man and television… personality. And, there are some, still, who think he’s the shit! Maybe I wasn’t the only one abducted? Bigger plan? Hmmm, stay tuned.

Now about the entertainment thang, something I have passion for. The alien’s film choices left much to be desired. After all, you can only watch Freddy Got Fingered and Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo so many times. That’s all they had – or all they would show me. Maybe some form of torture, looking back on it.

So, I binged-watched (that’s the term, right?) movies from the last year or so. Question – do they have to all be the same for you to watch – just the names and faces that change? There seemed to be quite a few quality films during 2016. The problem is – nobody saw them. Seriously, I’m talking about you! How many times have the Oscar nominations come out and you rushed to see them last minute (or download the screeners?) That’s because, and I’m guilty as well, you only go to see the Big Budget movies. And there were quite a few.

London Has Fallen, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Captain America: Civil War, Suicide Squad, Deadpool, The 5th Wave (when 4 waves are not enough!), Allegiant, Gods of Egypt, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, X-Men: Apocalypse, Star Trek Beyond, Warcraft,Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Criminal, 13 Hours, Now You See Me 2, The Purge: Election Year, Jason Bourne, Mechanic: Resurrection, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Rogue One, Independence Day: Resurgence, Assassin’s Creed, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, The Legend of Tarzan

just to name a few.

Too many for you? Well, not if they are quality. The problem is, and I’ve said this many times before, that particular formula is – or should be, tired by now. Can’t someone step up and start a new movie revolution. One that is not just eight to twenty minutes of action every half hour. As Neal Page (Steve Martin) said to Del Griffith (John Candy) in Planes, Trains and Automobiles… “And by the way, you know, when, when you’re telling these little stories, here’s a good idea. Have a point! It makes it so much more interesting for the listener!”

I love movies but these days it still seems all action and style over substance… and that just won’t do for me. It really shouldn’t for you either. But what do I know. Been gone.

BTW – No one watches T.V. commercials anymore, however, if you do… does every single one now involve (so-called) real people who gush over the cars and make you want to throw up?
